Blog#1-Lauren Geary:Sports Footwear

In this day and age there are many different sports ranging from wrestling to basketball. In just about every sport you need a certain type of shoe. Maybe you need a shoe with spikes, like for track. Maybe you need a shoe that has good ankle support and padding. The first sport I ever played was soccer. Before the season started my dad told me I had to get some soccer cleats. At first I thought they were a regular shoe just like the ones you would buy for running or something. Then I learned that you need a special shoe that had long plastic bumps on the bottom. These are known as soccer cleats. After I got sick of playing soccer I moved onto the sport basketball. Once again it was my dad taking me to get some shoes. I never knew there were so many different kinds of basketball shoes. There were some that were made for ankle support and some that gave you better grip on the court. There were also some that were lighter than others and helped you move up and down the court faster. When I was younger I never thought about why they were important or how they helped us. I don't think a lot of people in the sports world have thought about how different sports would be if we didn't have cleats or spikes or ice skates or any sports shoe. I have a lot of experience with sports because they are around me almost everyday but I never look at the things that help pull it together. I know some things about athletic footwear but I don't know everything. That's why I chose this topic, because it's the two things that I love greatly. Shoes and sports. Some of the things that I want to know are:

  • What would the sports world be without athletic footwear?
  • Why are athletic shoes important for certain sports?
  • When did athletic footwear become popular and have the highest sales?

  1. Something I really like about your blog is that you related sports shoes to sports! For one I really like sports, sports are an amazing way of entertaining yourself especially if you're stuck at home. Why not watch some sports on the television? I am really glad to hear that you talked about something that you are passionate about, I also played soccer as my first sport! Well, look at that we both have something in common! Other than that I think that your blog was very informative on the different types of shoes there are. My question would be, How were all these different types of shoes created? How were they thought of on how to make them?

  2. I really like that you chose this topic because everyone knows about sports...well almost everyone. But, we rarely know about the footwear that is needed for each and every sport. I feel like the blog is going to be really informative and teach those who do not know the importance of shoes. Some of the questions I would maybe start off with is the beginning of the footwear for sports. Why are the shoes so important? Maybe when and where was the first soccer cleat? If that is going to be the main focus.
